F-117 shot down over Serbia: how was it hit with such a small radar signature?
Was it hit by a heat seeking missile or radar guided missile ? I can’t see how it could be brought down by radar unless the stealth does not work ?
F-117 which was shot down was doing a night bombing raid against surface to air missile sites designed to take out NATO aircraft. When flying too low doing one of it’s raids it got underneath rain clouds and the rain effected the stealth making the aircraft visible on radar. The SAM missile which shot it down was the S-125 Soviet SAM which is radio command guidance, satellites away from the launch platform spotted it, sent the information to the missile crew, and launch the SAM missile at the F-117.
Rain has always been an issue for stealth aircraft, best way to avoid it is to fly over the rain clouds.
